Back in 2016, we received a request from a software developer who wanted to connect their software service to Little Green Light. This request was very interesting to us. Until then, we had built all of the integrations for LGL, but here was a way to add integrations without taxing our software development team. The requester was Caleb Pourchot, and his software service is called Landscape, an excellent solution for land trusts and other conservation organizations who manage tracts of land and need to steward their land and land donors. That was the first time we exposed an API (application programming interface) to anybody outside of LGL. Software developers can use the LGL API to connect web-based services to LGL, with the ability to read and write data from and to LGL.
Since then, a number of other software developers have built, and continue to maintain, integrations with Little Green Light. There are now close to 150 LGL accounts using API-based integrations on a regular basis, including 40 who use the Landscape integration.
We have recently updated the Integration Settings area within Little Green Light so that any subscribing LGL account administrator can now create an API key. This means it’s now easier than ever for LGL customers to tap into these API-based integrations. All the software work has been done by these companies, so apart from some initial configuration you should not need to spend much time setting them up.
When creating an API key, you will select the software service you want to connect with. Or, if you are working with a custom software developer or with a brand-new service, you can create a custom key. A number of LGL customers have used the API to create custom integrations, but in most cases LGL customers are tapping into one of the integrations built by another software service/application.

There are additional integrations that have either just launched or are in final stages of development. As new services come online and get established, we will add them to the list of available services in the LGL API section of the Integration Settings page in your LGL account. And, we will also add them to this help article: API-based integrations: What software services can you connect to LGL?
