4 steps to help secure your LGL forms against fraudulent use

Posted October 15, 2026 by Teri Bicknell

how to secure your donation forms from fraudsters

Fraudsters have been known to use donation forms to test stolen credit card information, so it’s important to take steps to reduce their ability to use your form for this purpose. In fact, following these steps are a best practice we strongly recommend. To this end, LGL Forms offers a number of excellent security features you should be using every time you build a form.

4 steps to help secure your LGL form against fraudulent use

Step 1: Turn on a CAPTCHA option.

Multiple CAPTCHA options are available in LGL Forms, reCAPTCHA v2 and reCAPTCHA v3 by Google and Turnstile by Cloudflare. Each works a little differently, and you can use whichever one you prefer. More information on CAPTCHA options and how to use them is available in this help article.

Step 2: Use a minimum amount of $5 or $10 (or more) in your form as a deterrent to fraudsters attempting to use the form.

Fraudsters want to operate undetected. Requiring a minimum amount in your LGL form can inhibit them from using the form to test stolen credit card data, since there’s a higher likelihood that the card owner will notice a $5 or $10 charge.

Step 3: Turn on the verification options within your form.

You can select just the Zip Code, CVV Code, or both. (Selecting both offers the highest security level.)

Step 4: Ensure your payment processor is enforcing strict fraud rules.

Fraudsters are typically submitting your form to test whether they can use stolen credit card numbers. While they often have the credit card number and Zip Code, they rarely have the 3-digit CVV Code. Ensuring your payment provider is enforcing strict fraud rules reduces the chance a fraudulent payment can be made, so no payment will go through that later needs to be refunded.

Contact your payment processor (Stripe or PayPal in the case of LGL Forms) to find out the options you have for securing payment processing on their platform.

Conclusion

To prevent phishers, scammers, and data thieves from using your LGL forms to test whether they can use the credit card data they’ve stolen, follow the steps in this post to make your form as impenetrable to their attempts as possible.
