Rarely are we lucky enough to experience full-circle moments in our lives that combine both our personal and professional worlds. I was fortunate enough to have such a moment earlier this summer. When I visited my family in the rolling hills of southern Indiana, I had the opportunity to take a hike on land managed by Sycamore Land Trust, a longtime LGL customer.
Sycamore Land Trust’s mission is to preserve the beauty, health, and diversity of southern Indiana’s natural landscape through strategic land conservation and environmental education. They also happen to be part of Little Green Light’s customer community!
As a member of LGL’s customer support team and now the sales and marketing team, I’m acutely aware of the importance of small to midsize nonprofits to the communities surrounding them. The size of the budget does not dictate the quality of the work, and often these organizations provide crucial services and programs unavailable elsewhere.
After a decade spent living and working in the Pacific Northwest, when I have a chance to visit Indiana I seek out nature and wild spaces. I had been looking forward to hiking at Sycamore Land Trust’s Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve for many years and finally made the trip. It was a humid and rainy day; perfect for a walk through the wetlands.
Coincidentally, in 2005, as a high school student, I volunteered at Beanblossom Bottoms with my Environmental Science class, hauling and laying planks for the at-that-time new trail. It looks like some of the planks are still present! I love that 18 years later I’m working for Little Green Light, a company that helps empower this important organization to continue their work in a community I care so much about.
So thank you to Sycamore Land Trust and all of our LGL customers for what you do everyday for your communities. And thank you for reminding the team at LGL why we do what we do!
