How to get the most from the LGL Knowledge Base

LGL Knowledge Base

No matter what level of help information you’re looking for—whether it’s how to get started using a software solution such as LGL or dive deep into a specific task you want to accomplish within it—you want to be able to find it fast. That’s why we provide the Little Green Light Knowledge Base, a set of living online documents designed to provide on-demand guidance on using LGL, for a range of experience levels.

The Knowledge Base is available from a self-service portal where articles are categorized by feature area, making it easy to navigate to the solution you’re looking for. You also have the option to search for answers right away, since articles are tagged with a variety of keywords to make them as findable as possible.

It might not be clear from visiting the LGL Knowledge Base, though, how you can get the most from it, based on your experience level. So in this post we discuss the best ways you can use the Knowledge Base, regardless of whether you’re a beginner or an advanced user, and share our internal team of experts’ ranking of articles we feel you will benefit most from reviewing.

NOTE: While LGL is not able to document every process for each unique situation in the Knowledge Base, our support team is always available to answer your email questions (typically within 1 to 2 hours) each Monday through Friday, 9AM to 7PM ET.

If you’re a new user

The work that you’ll do in LGL can often be complex, and it will typically comprise multiple phases. Some setup may be required for some of these phases.

New customers often ask us if there is an LGL handbook or tutorial to help them get started. While we don’t offer a published handbook per se, we do make a training guide available, which you can print out if you prefer referring to a physical version. The guide is a compilation of help articles designed to orient you in which steps to take first and in which order (roughly). If you’re new to Little Green Light and are not sure where or how to dive into learning LGL, we recommend making use of this guide.

TIP: The terms you know and use are not always the same as those used in LGL. If you’re new to LGL, it’s important to read as many introductory articles as you can to learn LGL’s terminology. Another option, if you aren’t finding what you expect, is to contact LGL Support; our team of experts is familiar with the terminology used by most fundraisers and can explain LGL’s terminology related to what you’re looking for.

As you become more acquainted with the Knowledge Base, in time you may find yourself ready to use the Search box on the LGL Support home page to find the exact information you’re looking for.

Recommended help articles for new users

According to a survey of our internal team of experts at LGL, the LGL Training Course is a great place to start because it contains a curated list of articles. Our team also recommends reading these 4 articles:

If you’re an experienced or advanced user

More experienced users tend to look for specific information through searching. But the Knowledge Base is a thorough guide comprising over 350 articles, and you may not be fully aware of all of the resources it offers.

Below are the articles we feel offer the most value to advanced users.

Recommended help articles for advanced users

According to a survey of our internal team of experts at LGL, the 3 most important Knowledge Base articles every user would benefit from reviewing are:

If you are a very advanced user, sometimes the only way to accomplish your goal is via a custom integration. For more technologically advanced users, LGL offers integrations, customizations, the API, and Zapier to accommodate nonstandard or very specific applications. How you can access and use these solutions is documented, but not the particulars of how to apply them because each use case is distinct. You can always contact LGL Support to receive additional information and guidance.

Conclusion

The LGL Knowledge Base is a resource you can access at any time, day or night, to lend a hand when you run across a problem or question you need help with. It’s worth getting to know more about what’s in the Knowledge Base, because you can turn to this always-available guide whenever you need it.

  1. Hi Teri – we are trying to integrate our Mail Chimp lists into LGL. One person wants us to have a separate Mail Chimp audience list for readers of our newsletter and a separate one for potential or past donors.

Is this even possible to bring over to LGL? Can we place LGL folks into Mail Chimp, going in the other direction? We do subscribe to LGL.

    Thanks.

    1. Hi Mary,

This is a great question to ask our support team! You can reach them using the Contact form located on the Help page in your LGL account.

      Thanks,
      Timi
